A SAILING club is aiming to build on the success of the British team at the Olympics and the interest it has generated by calling on potential recruits to come along and have a go.
An open day is being held on Sunday, May 12 at Yorkshire Water’s Thornton Steward reservoir between Bedale and Leyburn to give people the chance to try the sport.
Experienced sailors will be on hand to help visitors take to the water themselves.
Ken Gibson, of Thornton Steward Sailing Club, said: "People often see sailing boats out on the water and dream of having a go but never do because they don't know how to get started.
"We're hoping our open day will help people overcome those first few obstacles and perhaps encourage one or two to take their first steps into a thoroughly rewarding sport. "
