OUTDOOR FIRES: North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to a fire on Crombie Avenue, York, on Sunday (May 5) at 6pm after a fire in a wheely bin spread to a nearby fence and out-building.

Fire crews said the fire was started deliberately, and after several calls from concerned members of the public the fire was put out with two fire crews and two hose reel jets.

Later that evening at 7pm in Burdyke Avenue, York, a controlled fire in a back garden quickly became out of control and started a blaze in boundary trees and fences.

The fire also destroyed three quarters of the contents of a 15 feet by 20 feet shed. Two fire crews and hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire.
