MORE than 80 people attended a charity beauty event which raised £750 for a UK charity set up to support an African school.
Clarins beauty specialists from the Beauty Hall at Barkers, in Northallerton, provided their expertise as well as raffle prizes for the fundraising evening.
It was held at the town’s Golden Lion Hotel by mother and daughter Iris Smith and Caroline Kitching.
The money will go to a £6,000 appeal for new classrooms launched by Under the Mango Tree, which supports Kambetimboni School in Kenya, established in 2000.
Mrs Smith and her husband Derek, from Northallerton, were introduced to the plight of the Kenyan children through some old school friends, with whom they visited the school two years ago.
They are now trustees of the charity, having visited the school and seen young pupils’ plight first-hand.
