A LOCAL opticians has pledged to raise vital funds for Herriot Hospice Homecare during 2013.

The team at Northallerton Specsavers is backing Herriot Hospice to show its support for the charity’s continued hard work to provide a high-quality standard of care to patients with a life-limiting illness.

Staff at Specsavers, on the High Street, have been selling books in store and are collecting donations from customers who visit the store for glasses repairs. Ruth Bargate, store director at Northallerton Specsavers, said: “As a longstanding business serving our local community for 12 years, we feel it is important to support a local charity.

“Herriot Hospice is a great cause which benefits so many local people.

The store has previously supported Diabetes UK by holding book and cake sales, plus two members of staff took part in a skydive. Over three years the store has raised £5,000 for the charity. Katherine Harrison, fundraising manager at Herriot Hospice Homecare, said: “We rely on the enthusiastic support of good natured local businesses and individuals to continue operating as we do.

“The backing of Northallerton Specsavers is a massive boost both for our team and the people we strive to support.”
