The weather prevented York Minster from staging a Palm Sunday procession in the city centre to mark the beginning of Holy Week. The cathedral had hoped to start its Palm Sunday service in St Helen’s Square and for the congregation and the public to follow a donkey through the streets to York Minster. But the Minster authorities decided the high winds and cold temperatures were too much for the ceremony to cope with and cancelled the procession. The rest of the service went ahead as planned.
