A CHILDREN’S book illustrator shed light on turning literature into artwork at a primary school recently.
Olivia Lomenech Gill recently spent an afternoon at Aiskew, Leeming Bar Primary School, near Northallerton.
The illustrator of Michael and Clare Morpurgo’s book, Where My Wellies Take Me, spoke to the school about her work and staged an art workshop with Key Stage 2 children in the school.
Pupils learnt about her techniques and tried out some of the art materials she uses to create their own artwork based on poems from the book.
English subject leader, Mikeala Morgans said: “Olivia’s visit was a fantastic opportunity for our children to engage with an illustrator.
“It gave them an insight into the process of creating and publishing a book and how language and image both play an important part in the telling of a story.”
