SHOPKEEPERS have been challenged to produce their best ever Christmas window displays as part of a drive to boost a town’s economy.
Mayor of Richmond Stuart Parsons said five cups and trophies would be up for grabs before the town’s late-night shopping and festive lights switch-on on Friday, November 30.
Many of the windows will include wooden sheep which will be named and designed by schoolchildren.
Judges will inspect the windows of shops in the Market Place and the surrounding streets ahead of the lights ceremony in Friary Gardens at 6pm.
Councillor Parsons said: “Everybody is finding it tough at the moment, but in Richmond we are doing relatively well as we only have two empty shops and we want people to come and enjoy what Richmond has to offer before Christmas.
“The shop windows are usually absolutely amazing with incredible designs and I’m looking forward to seeing them this year.
