RICHMOND Operatic Society (ROS) is preparing to stage an award-winning musical at the Georgian Theatre Royal.
The ROS will present Return to the Forbidden Planet from Tuesday, November 20 to Saturday, November 24.
The show is based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and is fused with 1950s rock 'n’ roll hits including Young Girl, Good Vibrations, Great Balls of Fire and the Young Ones.
A spokesperson from the ROS said: “The musical comprises great music with a space age adventure and brilliant comedy characters saying famous Shakespeare one-liners – just not necessarily in the right place.
“The society is also making use of the new digital projection at the Georgian Theatre.”
Music for the production is being provided by members of The Atlantic Soul Messengers, as well as some ROS members.
Musical Director Brian Cook said: “Performing a rock musical is a new departure for ROS and it has been an exhilarating learning curve for both the ROS members and the rock musicians.
“We hope Shakespeare would think we have done his forgotten rock ‘n’ roll musical proud.”
Tickets cost £8 to £15 from the box office on 01748-825252.
