THE ranks of the Special Constabulary have been enhanced by the latest recruits to join the North Yorkshire force.

The volunteer officers were sworn in at an attestation ceremony, hosted by Assistant Chief Constable Iain Spittal at the magistrates’ court in Northallerton.

The appointment of the ten new officers brings the total number of special constables in North Yorkshire Police to 158.

The new recruits come from a range of backgrounds including working in the IT and telecommunications industry, self employment, education, local government and the civil service.

Mr Spittal said: “It is always a great pleasure to welcome new officers to the force especially those who give their own time as Special Constables to serve their local communities.

“I know that the contribution made by specials is valued by their regular colleagues at all ranks.”

The new special constables will be based across the force area.
