A LIBRARY is hosting its first seasonal celebration since it was taken over by the local community – with a Halloween party for children.

Great Ayton Discovery Centre is inviting youngsters to come dressed in their most spooky attire and take part in the event on Wednesday, October 31.

Games such as bobbing apples and “pass the skeleton” will be played and scary stories read at the High Street centre.

It will be the centre’s first seasonal event since becoming a community-run facility in May.

North Yorkshire County Council had opted to close the facility as part of budget-cuts.

But rather than lose the centre, residents decided to run it themselves.

The party will take place between 5pm and 6.30pm. Youngsters aged between two and seven-years-old need to be accompanied by an adult and there will be a prize for fancy dress.

Admission is free but some activities will carry a small charge.
