A QUESTION Time-style event to address cuts to benefits and services for people suffering from motor neurone disease (MND) will take place in Northallerton.

As part of the Hardest Hit campaign, Helen Todd from the MND Association will be at the event at the Allerton Court Hotel on Friday, October 26.

MND is a rapidly progressive, fatal disease that can affect any adult at any time. The disease leaves people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves, but the cause is unknown and there is no cure.

Ms Todd said: “The Government is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and introducing Universal Credit - a new single benefit bringing several working age benefits together. “These changes fail to take into account the reality of disabled people living with long term conditions including MND.

“The Hardest Hit campaign, organised by the Disability Benefits Consortium and a range of organisations working for the disabled, aims to send a clear signal to the Government that the proposed changes are inherently unfair.”
