NORTH Yorkshire Police are reminding local charities and community groups that there is just one week left to apply for a share of £25,000.

Under the Why should they? campaign, the force has allocated funds from cash and assets stripped from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Any charities or groups in the North Yorkshire area can apply for up to £3,000 if their work contributes to reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, but they must apply by Wednesday, October 31.

Detective Inspector Ian Wills, head of the Financial Investigation Unit, said: “We want to make sure no-one misses the deadline at the end of this month if they wish to apply for funding.

"Over the past two years North Yorkshire Police has donated £49,000 to 28 local good causes and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to apply.

"If you think you are in with a chance, don't hesitate to apply - but do it now so you don't miss out."
