A YOUNG show-jumper who excelled herself at a recent competition is turning her passion into a business.

Sarah Mousley, 20, of Dalton Gates, near Croft, North Yorkshire, competed at the Kingsbarn Equestrian Centre in Scotland last weekend and her consistently high placings won her the ‘Lead Rider’ trophy.

Miss Mousley, who has been riding since she was six-years-old, said she was delighted with her achievement and is now turning her success in the ring into a business behind the scenes.

She is taking on other riders’ horses and training them to a high competing standard before handing them back to their owners who hopefully go on to win plenty of prizes with them.

Her brother-in-law, professional show-jumper Paul Barker of Northallerton, has been offering his expertise and Miss Mousley is confident her business will take off.

“Since I met Paul he has taught me how to win, and the ins and outs of producing horses,” she said.

“A lot of the top riders are in the same boat; they are so busy competing that they are looking for people to bring them the best horses.

“I found a niche, approaching the top riders and basically saying, ‘you have not got the time to bring on your horse, so give it to me and I will bring it on’.”

Miss Mousley stables the horses at the family home and is currently working on a six-year-old gelding, Kilnamona Douglas, as well as riding her own mare, Wildcat, and a gelding, Temple What, for the Temple Stud.

She took all three to the Kingsbarn event where Wildcat and Temple What won their events, while Kilnamona Douglas won one and finished third in a further two.
