TROOPER Middleham, the new member of the Household Cavalry, who’s been named after the North Yorkshire racing town will parade at Buckingham Palace next week.
The horse was named Middleham after the town secured the most votes in a competition to name the cavalry’s latest recruits.
He’s spent the past six months out at grass and is now in the final furlong of his training. Though his stable name is Monster, he’s due to take up ceremonial duties on October 31 for the state visit of the President of Indonesia to Buckingham Palace. He’s also due on parade on November 27 for the visit of the Amir of Kuwait to Windsor Castle.
Mayor of Middleham, Tammi Tolhurst, said: ”We wish him every success with his training and hope he has a long and illustrious career.
"We are so proud to be associated with this magnificent horse and whilst we can visit him on parade we also hope that perhaps Trooper Middleham will at some stage be able to visit us all here and meet all his friends and supporters in North Yorkshire’s premier racing centre Middleham.”
