PRIMARY school pupils have achieved their goal of looking smart on their playing fields after swapping 400 CDs and DVDs for a new school football kit.

Children at Sowerby Primary School, Thirsk, took four weeks to collect the albums and films so cash exchange website musicMagpie would replace the youngsters’ ageing kits as part of its Freekits scheme.

A school spokesman said the school, which treats sport as a top priority, has several clubs run with the help of parents, teachers and local coaches including basketball, football, gymnastics, athletics, karate and rugby.

He said: “This commitment to sport has brought much success. Recently Year Six boys scooped overall first and second places in the cross country championships and hockey has also started to become a firm favourite with both boys and girls.”

Head teacher Jean Yendall said: “We are incredibly proud of all our sporting stars, in how they represent the school and for what they have achieved individually.”
