Chester-le-Street Amateur Operatic Society is putting on a stage version of a classic film comedy.

Sugar is based on the Marilyn Monroe classic Some Like it Hot, which was named as the greatest American comedy film of all time by the American Film Institute.

It tells the story of two unemployed musicians , Joe and Jerry, who witness a gangland massacre in Chicago and join an all-female band to escape the hitmen on their trail.

The production stars Amy Smith as Sugar – played by Marilyn Monroe in the film - Graeme Smith as Joe and Josephine and Peter Archer as Jerry and Daphne.

A society spokesman said the production promises “plenty of entertainment, comedy and show stopping tunes”. Sugar will be performed at Park View Community Theatre, Chester-le-Street from Tuesday to Saturday, November 6 to 10.

Curtain up is at 7.15pm each night. Tickets cost £10 for adults (£8 on Tuesday) and £5 for under 16s. Family tickets (two adults and two children) are available for £25. To book tickets or for more information call 0191- 388 6001, 0191-584 3061 or 07989 596198.
