AROUND 200 people attended an annual harvest fair to raise money for charity.
St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham City, held its second annual Hospice harvest event in the grounds of its centre in Merryoaks on Saturday, October 13.
Visitors raised £1,775.34 as they bobbed for apples, played catch-a-duck, tried seasonal cakes and treats and browsed the autumnal plants in the hospice gardens.
There was also a demonstration from the birds of prey at Northside Falconry.
Among the visitors was 11-year-old Benjamin Goodhew, of Durham City, who watched the demonstration by Chirpy the Bengal Owl.
He said: "The display was good, the best bit was when they got Chirpy out because he kept on chirping - just like his name."
Jade McArdle, from the hospice, said: "I’m pleased that this year’s Hospice Harvest as been as much of a success as last year’s and that so many people have joined us to celebrate the autumn festivities.
"Events like this, where we invite visitors to the hospice, are essential in highlighting just how important the community’s support is."
