RESIDENTS are being invited to help tidy up their village.

A week of activity to spruce up Sacriston starts on Monday, October 22.

Organiser Durham County Council wants local people to participate.

Civic Pride Officer Geoff Knight said: “This is a perfect opportunity for local people to join in and help to improve their neighbourhood and make a difference to where they live.

“We look forward to meeting people throughout the week and we are committed to supporting them in addressing any issues of concern.”

On Monday (October 22) at 10am outside St Peter’s Church, a community walkabout will set off and will look at ways of improving the area.

There will be a litter pick starting at 1pm outside the church.

On Tuesday, October 23, Cestria Community Housing will host a pizza and soft drink evening for the village’s youngsters at the Fulforth Centre between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

Wednesday , October 24, is a community skip day when villagers can get rid of rubbish in free skips on a first-come-first served basis. They will be in car parks car parks at: The rear of Charlaw Close; rear of Acorn Close; rear of Reeth Crescent; in Derwent Crescent; Coniston Drive; and the end of Rydal Close.

No white goods, electrical goods, asbestos or trade/builders waste will be allowed in the skips.

Neighbourhood Wardens, police and local partners will tackle environmental issues during an Enforcement Day on Thursday, 25 October.

Another community walkabout will be held on Friday, October 26 starting at 10am outside St Peter’s Church.
