A SCHOOL team has won a citywide table tennis championship.
The “A team” from Belmont Community School, in Belmont, won the Under 13 Table Tennis Championships, involving teams from schools across Durham City, on home turf.
The victory means the team qualifies for the County Winter Games, to be held in March.
The team included Tom James, Aiden Barnabas, Alex Walker and Chris Young, all aged 12.
Tom said: “I’m very proud to have been representing school. I played well, as did the rest of the squad, against some really good opponents.
“It was really exciting when it was announced that we had won and our B team had come third. I am really looking forward to the County round in March and am going to continue to train hard and, hopefully, win again.”
Teacher, Michael Corker said: “I am absolutely delighted and thrilled for all the players involved. They have shown real dedication and commitment to the sport.
“I am proud to be associated with every single student who attends table tennis club, including those who didn’t make the squad.”
