AN arts centre is to stage an anniversary concert to mark its 50th anniversary.
International opera singer Graeme Danby and BBC Radio Newcastle presenter Alfie Joey are to perform at the Lamplight Arts Centre, in Stanley, on Thursday,, November 24, starting at 7.30pm.
Originally known as Stanley Civic Hall, the building opened its doors for the first time in 1961 and changed its name to The Lamplight in 2002.
Over the years it has seen appearances by big name stars including Sarah Millican, Honor Blackman, Alan Price and Marty Wilde as well as performances by talented local groups.
Now managed by the trust Leisureworks on behalf of Durham County Council, the Lamplight is also a popular venue for wedding receptions, birthdays and christenings.
The anniversary concert will also showcase the work of some of the community groups which regularly use the centre including Samantha’s School of Dance, The Stanley Variety Troupe, Silver Singers Stanley, Pauline Cook’s School of Dance and South Moor Musical Theatre Group.
