THIEVES took off a teenager’s jeans in order to steal his possessions during a late-night robbery.
The 17-year-old was attacked as he walked home in Sherburn Terrace, Consett in the early hours of the morning.
Shortly before 1am on Friday, the victim was approached from behind by a group of five men, one of whom kicked his legs away causing him to fall on his back.
He was then held to the ground by his shoulders while others tried to go through his pockets to steal his Blackberry Curve phone, his wallet containing £20 in cash and various cards including his provisional driving licence.
When they couldn’t manage to get the items, they pulled off his jeans, emptied his pockets and ran off.
Detective constable Helen Richardson said: "He was left very distressed by the attack and I am appealing for any witnesses who would have been in the area at the time to come forward."
Anyone with information should contact DC Richardson on the non-emergency number 0345 6060 365.
