OVERHEAD metal cabling has been stolen near a north Durham pub.

Police are appealing for information after the theft from a road next to the Board Inn near Esh Village.

It is believed the theft happened in the early hours of Monday October 24 with cabling valued at £3,000 disappearing from the main road area near to some houses.

Detective Sergeant Paul Gray, from Chester-le-Street CID, said "We would like to appeal for anyone who has any information or who may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary in that area at the time mentioned to get in touch. "Individuals involved in this kind of theft are not only breaking the law but are also putting themselves in danger by tampering with live metal cabling which could have serious consequences."
