MORE than 1,000 youngsters took part in an annual cross country run competition.
The fifth annual Whole School Cross Country event was held at St Leonard’s Catholic School, in Durham City, on Thursday, October 13.
The event was organised by students from the school’s sixth form who are studying a BTEC sport course and sponsored by Northumbrian Water.
It was aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, enhancing the feeling of community across the school and encouraging competition for children of all abilities.
Michael Hughes, from the school, said: "The weather was unusually kind to us and we were witness to some exceptional individual performances.
"This was a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all involved."
