A VISIT to the dentist was an enjoyable experience for a dozen primary school pupils last week.

Children from St Bede’s Primary School, in Sacriston, near Chester-le-Street took a trip to Sacriston Dental Health Centre last week.

The Year Three and Four children had a look around the surgery and learned about the damage that sugary snacks can do to their teeth and gums and why it is important to brush teeth and gums twice per day.

Dentist Kirstin Farquhar said: "I would like to encourage parents to bring their children to the dentist as soon as possible to get them used with the surroundings, the smell and the noises associated with dentistry so that when they do get into the chair themselves they feel relaxed and comfortable.

"By bringing local school children into the practice it helps us to get the messages across in a fun way about how important it is that they look after their teeth and how best they do that. "
