A SPONSORED dog walk has raised £9,000 for a city hospice.
Paws for a Cause, the third annual sponsored dog walk in aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham, was held in Houghall woods on Sunday, October 9.
The event, sponsored by Abbey Vets, was launched by ITV weathergirl Philippa Thomson with her Tibetan Terriers Billy and BG and around 150 dogs took part.
Laura Barker, the hospice’s events co-ordinator, said: "This has been our biggest Paws for a Cause yet and it’s quickly becoming one of our most-loved fundraisers.
"The atmosphere was fantastic and our dog walkers have raised an incredible amount for the hospice."
Pauline Leach, who walked the route with friends in memory of her late husband John, said: "Although today has been difficult at times, we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed the walk.
"It’s been great to see so many people taking part and I’ll definitely be doing the walk next year."
The hospice provides day and overnight care for people with life-limiting conditions in north Durham. The total raised is enough to pay for overnight respite care for 22 people.
Sponsorship money should be returned by Friday, November 25. For more information, visit stcuthbertshospice.com
