CHILDREN from north Durham have been learning how to make the most of their rubbish.
Pupils aged three-seven at South Stanley Infant and Nursery School were asked last week to bring in materials to be recycled.
The brought in yoghurt and flower pots, cereal boxes and other household waste and created artwork to brighten up the school.
The school has also been working with recycling firm Terracycle, which has paid £40 for the unused items, which will be ‘upcycled’, or turned into products of a higher environment value, such as bags or purses.
Nursery nurse Carol Jackson said: "From an educational point of view the children are finding out how to recycle products and using their creativity by making things out of junk.
"They have learned that things can be put to use instead of going direct to landfill and it is important for them because it means a lot for their future."
