YOUNG people put their Euro MPs in the spotlight at a Question Time-style debate.
School and college students from Durham took part in the event at Durham Town Hall on Friday.
The North-East’s three MEPs, Labour’s Stephen Hughes, Conservative Martin Callanan and Liberal Democrat Fiona Hall, all attended. Richard Moss, from the BBC, hosted the debate.
Ms Hall said: "The quality of questions was outstanding. They demonstrated a clear understanding of difficult issues and a curiosity about a broad range of topics."
A straw poll held at the end of the debate produced a ‘resounding’ vote in support of the UK continuing to be a member of the EU, Ms Hall added.
The event also offered voluntary groups and small organisations the chance to pick up tips on how to get their voices heard in Brussels. It was organised by Europe Direct North-East.
