A STREET festival will return to the North-East this summer.

The free ‘Streets Of’ summer festival 2011 will be held in Durham city centre over August bank holiday weekend.

There will be folk and world music across the city centre on Saturday, August 27.

The Carillion stage, in the Market Place, will host street performers including clowns, acrobats, jugglers and contortionists.

The Walkergate stage, in Millennium Place, will have new and established music acts.

The full programme will be announced later this month.

The festival begins with a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed night on Friday, August 26, at 8.15pm. There will be entertainment in Millennium Place and a screening of the film in the Gala Theatre.

Folk in the Garden will be at Crook Hall and Gardens on Saturday, August 27. Gates open at 6pm, with the event running from 8pm to 10pm.

Tickets for the evening events are £15 each. To book, call 0191-3324041 or visit galadurham.co.uk Festival organiser Kate James said: "Streets is an urban festival that you can enjoy without wellies or a tent.

"It’s a summer festival with a difference as the beautiful City of Durham comes alive with the fantastic sounds of contemporary folk and world music whilst dare-devil skills are performed on the streets."
