MUSIC lovers will be able to enjoy a concert of choral music in the unique acoustic of one of the hidden architectural gems of Durham Cathedral.
The Durham Singers will present a programme of a capella music in the cathedral’s Chapter House - with the title of I’m a Pilgrim, a programme that follows a musical journey from exile to a promised land.
Dr Julian Wright, musical director of the Durham Singers said: "Performing in Durham Cathedral is always a tremendous privilege, and the Chapter House has a wonderful acoustic which we’re hoping to exploit with the lovely unaccompanied pieces that we’ve chosen."
The programme mixes English romantic and contemporary works with arrangements of American spirituals by Moses Hogan, and includes Harris’s popular eight-part motet Faire is the Heaven and pieces by Julian Anderson and Ken Burton.
And for those who associate Hubert Parry with the grandiose music of the recent royal wedding, Never Weather Beaten Sail from his Songs of Farewell cycle, is a contemplative piece that shows the composer in quite a different light.
Durham Singers: I’m a Pilgrim will be performed at 7.30pm on Friday(June 24). Tickets £10/£8 available from Durham Gala Theatre Box Office 0191-332 4041, www.wegottickets.com or on the door.

blob. The choir will also be presenting a shortened version of the programme in a free afternoon concert in Brinkburn Priory at 2.30pm on 19 June as part of the Brinkburn summer music series. English Heritage admission charges apply.
