AN event highlighting the work done by the unsung army of carers looking after family members is to take place next week.
Durham and Chester-le-Street Carers Support group has organised the event to coincide with the 11th annual National Carers Week.
The day has been organised to offer information and support to carers living in the Durham City and Chester-le-Street areas.
The event takes place at the Red Lion in Front Street, on Friday, June 17 from 10am to noon.
Durham North MP Kevan Jones is to attend and will unveil a display of artwork, photos and writing from carers which depicts their interpretation of the "True Face Of Caring".
Sarah Douglas, Commissioner for Carers Services at Durham County Council, will be on hand to discuss carer breaks and there will be an opportunity to sign up for the free Carers Emergency Card Scheme, which ensures the safety of the person cared for if the carer has an emergency.
If anyone is unable to attend the event, support co-ordinators from the group will also be available at Chester-le-Street Civic Centre on Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14 from noon to 2pm.
Jenni Wood, manager of Durham and Chester-le-Street Carers Support, said: "Bearing in mind the huge number of carers it is essential Carers receive the support they need.
"When nobody cares for the carers, then the people who they care for who suffer too.
"We are here for the Carer to help guide them through the maze of services and ensure they have someone to be there for them".
