PARENTS are being invited to two drug awareness sessions taking place over the coming weeks.

The sessions, run by the local Sure Start centre, are aimed at parents and carers of children under the age of five.

Jayne Glancy and Duncan Barnett, from the Derwentside Rural Crime Initiative, will run the sessions taking place at the Benfieldside Sure Start Centre, on The Moorlands, in Blackhill, Consett.

Mr Barnett said: "We will be delivering basic drug and alcohol presentations, which will be available to parents, carers and professionals.

"These interactive sessions will be tailored to suit individual groups and involve discussions around current drug use within the Derwentside area, whilst dispelling the myths associated with drugs and drug use.

"We will also look at the effects of these drugs on the body as well as the cost to the user and provide information regarding organisations that can offer support and the law regarding drugs and illegal drug use."

Hour-long sessions take place on Thursday, June 30 and again on Thursday, July 7 starting at 10am each day.

To book a place, please contact Karen Heslop or Lynn Milburn at the children’s centre on 01207 590 065.
