PET owners in the North-East can access treatment for their animals close to home after a vet practice launched its own mobile clinic.
The mobile surgery, which is owned and run by Prince Bishop Veterinary Hospital in Leadgate, Consett, is now on the road serving some of the more rural villages and towns in the region.
The ‘petmobile’ is a fully equipped veterinary surgery and provides consultations, examinations and routine veterinary treatment for dogs, cats and other pets.
It will be possible to carry out minor surgical procedures in the vehicle but more complicated cases will be transported back to the main hospital premises.
Principal vet Jacqui Molyneux said: "The main purpose of the mobile surgery is to bring veterinary treatment to the more remote and rural areas of the county and it is ideal for anyone without access to a car, anyone who is elderly or infirm or who is simply too busy to get to the vets but would like to bring their pet along to get checked out.
"We can offer a range of treatments at the mobile clinic including health checks, vaccinations, preventative care and check-ups.
"It's a service that many of our existing clients were calling for, particularly those who work long hours."
Prince Bishop Vet’s mobile surgery is in operation four days a week but will move to five days later this year.
The unit covers outlying villages including Prudhoe on Mondays, Craghead on Tuesdays, Langley Park on Wednesdays and Tow Law on Thursdays, within a ten-mile radius of Leadgate.
