GREAT Britain and Germany will cross swords in an international fencing match taking place this weekend.

Veteran fencers from the two nations are to compete in a friendly match at Durham Town Hall on Saturday, with the opening ceremony taking place at 10.40am.

The annual match has taken place for the last 20 years, with each country taking it in turns to host the event.

This year, Great Britain will be fielding a number of Olympians and current World and European Champions, including the North East’s Ruth Davidson who is current European Team Champion and National Champion.

A formal hand over of gifts will be made to each of the fencing delegations by the Consul General Herr Mossinger and Coun Dennis Morgan, Chairman of Durham County Council.
