TWO long-serving church wardens have been honoured for their community work.
Between them, Maureen Robinson and Margaret Wilson have dedicated 26 years work to Christ The King Church, in Bowburn, Durham City.
The popular pair have now been presented with Chairman’s Medals by outgoing chairman of Durham County Council Coun Mac Williams, the final medals presented during his year in office.
Both recipients are former school dinner ladies, while Margaret is actively involved in community work in her home village of Cassop and nearby Quarrington Hill, while Maureen does the same in Bowburn.
Coun Williams said: "As church wardens, Maureen and Margaret have assisted the vicar with his parish duties.
"On top of this they have physically run and held together the parish of Cassop cum Quarrington with Bowburn.
"By involving village folk they’ve increased congregation sizes and got people from other villages to become actively involved with each other, which is no mean feat".
