AN exhibition designed by sixth formers has opened in a popular museum.
Items for the Illness and Medicine exhibition, which has gone on display at Durham University’s Oriental Museum, were chosen by youngsters from Durham Sixth Form Centre, Framwellgate School Durham and St Leonard’s RC Comprehensive, all in Durham City.
They worked with China and Egypt experts to select the items, as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad’s Stores of the World project.
Museum curator Craig Barclay said: "The young people involved in this project deserve a huge amount of credit.
"They have come together from a number of different schools to work as a team, giving up their free time, to create a really fascinating and thought-provoking exhibition.
"Museum staff have greatly enjoyed working on this project and have learned a great deal. We hope that the young people have all had a similarly rewarding experience."
The exhibition is open until Sunday, September 18. The Oriental Museum is open 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and noon to 5pm on weekends and Bank Holidays. Entry costs £1.50 for adults, 75p for five to 16s and over 60s and is free for under fives and students. For more information, visit durham.ac.uk/oriental.museum or call 0191-3345694.
