STAFF at a childcare centre are asking children and their parents to help less fortunate youngsters in return for a slap-up breakfast.

Members of the community and children are working in partnership with local charity Fareshare North-East to host ICAN week.

Cans of food will be donated and distributed to vulnerable and disadvantaged adults and children living in the region.

In return parents and the children at Selby Cottage will be cooked a healthy breakfast.

Tinned food can be left at the reception of the children’s centre between Monday to Friday January 24 to 28.

Selby Cottage manager Kathleen Shields said: "This is a fantastic way to play your part in helping those less fortunate at the time of year when often people struggle most.

Buying a few extra tins as part of a weekly shop can make a big difference."
