A DURHAM University college is hosting an exhibition of paintings by artists who met when they studied there in the late 1960s.

The display at Trevelyan College is by the Parson’s Field Painters, who took their name from Parson’s Field House, which was their accommodation from 1966 to 1969 while the current college was being built.

Vicki Wegg-Prosser (née Bird) works with conté crayons, Angela Hooper (née Bock) uses watercolours and pastels, Jill Ferguson uses oil and acrylic, Susannah Lash makes monoprints Diana Bishop (née Preston) paints with watercolours.

They say: "In the intervening years we have brought up families; and have had varied careers including the Ministry of Defence, lecturing, social work, BBC, documentary film making, Olympic rowing, and Liberal Democrat politics; disparate activities which have now made way for our own creativity.

"We are scattered all over the country, but have kept in touch ,and have discovered that we are all engaged in painting or print-making. We now meet regularly and paint sometimes!

"We are also in touch with Joan Bernard, Trevelyan's first principal, who suggested this exhibition."

The exhibition is in the college, in Elvet Hill Road, Durham, and runs from today (monJan24) until Friday March 11.

It is open to the public 10am to 6pm daily. The exhibition may occasionally close earlier due to other events in college. Visitors are advised to check before travelling by calling 0191-334 7011.
