FORMER members and officials are invited to fly the flag again to join a special anniversary celebration for an air cadet squadron.
The 234 (City of Durham) Squadron Air Cadets is flying high after 70 years helping would-be airmen and women take the first steps to getting off the ground.
Its special celebratory event will be staged at All Saint’s Church, in Carr House Drive, Newton Hall, Durham, on Sunday February 6, which is also the 70th anniversary of the Air Training Corps.
Squadron staff, committee and cadets hope ex-members will wing it back to Durham from far and wide.
Cadets take part in a wide range of activities, from flying and gliding, to Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards as well as working towards BTEC qualifications.
The Durham Squadron is open to anyone in the 13 to 18 age bracket, and meets at its drill hall between Heaviside Place and Station Lane, on Monday and Friday, between 6.45 and 9.15pm.
Its aims are to encourage young people to take up new challenges, to develop leadership, teamwork and citizenship.
Seventieth anniversary celebrations begins at 3pm, with refreshments being served.
Further information is available via oc.234@aircadets.org, or by ringing 0191-384 9607, on Monday and Friday evenings, from 6.30 - 9.15pm.
