TWO air cadets from the same squadron have been chosen to represent a county’s Lord Lieutenant.
Flight Sergeant Alyx Milne, 17, and Corporal Matthew Leathard, 16, were named Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for County Durham following a selection process involving cadets from across the county.
They were interviewed by commanding officers from squadrons across Durham and Northumberland.
The pair, both from 234 (City of Durham) Squadron Air Cadets, will accompany the Lord Lieutenant Sir Paul Nicholson, who is the Queen’s representative in County Durham, on official duties including royal visits, school openings and ceremonial duties.
The army and sea cadets will also be represented.
Cpl Leathard said: "It’s a massive honour and a privilege to represent County Durham for the Air Cadet Organisation."
Flight Lieutenant Liz Green, their commanding officer, said: "I am extremely proud of Sgt Milne and Cpl Leathard. It is very unusual to have both representatives picked from the same squadron."
