TWO gardening courses will begin at an agricultural college this week.
East Durham College’s Houghall campus, near Durham City, will host ten-week Certificate in Gardening courses on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The Tuesday course will focus on organic gardening, with teaching about the principles of organic gardening, soil management and cultivation, fertiliser, composting and crop protection and rotation.
The Wednesday course will be about beds and borders, covering herbaceous perennials, annuals, biennials and bedding plants, outdoor ornamental containers and baskets, outdoor bulbs and the maintenance of flowers.
Students can sit a City and Guilds test at the end of the course to gain a Level 2 qualification.
All classes run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. A course costs £125 per person. The examination costs £35.30 extra.
