A MOTORCYCLE rider has died after his bike collided with a car.

The 46-year-old man, who has not been named but was from the Durham area, died in Newcastle General Hospital, following a crash which happened in Newcastle on Thursday, October 21.

The smash occurred on St James Boulevard, close to the junction of Scotswood Road on the approach to Redheugh Bridge, shortly after 4pm.

The motorcycle, which was being driven south, crossed the central reservation and hit a black car travelling north.

Police are keen to speak to any pedestrians, drivers or passengers who witnessed the incident or where in the area at the time.

Sergeant Jason Ryder, of Northumbria Police, said: "The time of the collision was just approaching rush hour where it would have been particularly busy with pedestrians and vehicles and would have still been quite light.

"Our officers are also keen to speak to the driver or passengers of what is believed to be a silver Peugeot 307 Estate which was next to the black car at the time of the incident. They may be able to provide key information to help police with the investigation."

Police say the victim will not be named until all family members have been informed. They have released images taken around the time of the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Northumbria Police on 03456-043-043 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
