FORTY students and teachers have raised more than £1,000 for charity by taking part in the Great North Run.
The pupils and staff from Durham Gilesgate Sixth Form Centre, in Durham City, presented £1,153 to representatives of The Stroke Association during their visit to the college on Friday, October 22.
They were inspired to support the cause after charity staff Mike Scollins and Liz Knight gave a presentation about strokes and their effects at their college.
Richard Miller, the college’s director of learning, said: "Liz and Mike from The Stroke Association delivered one of the best presentations and workshops I’ve seen from an external organisation.
"They were able to bring to life the more serious issues about stroke, with an accessible and upbeat approach."
