GERMAN performers are to appear in an evening of poetry and music to celebrate a long-standing international link.

Poets Henning Ziebritzki and Carolyn Murphey Melchers will be giving a free public poetry reading, in German and English, at the Clayport Library, in Durham City, on Monday, November 1 starting at 7.30pm.

Joining the visitors at the free event will be Durham-based writers Dr. Keith Armstrong, Cynthia Fuller and Katrina Porteous.

Following the poetry, attention moves to The Dun Cow, on Old Elvet, a performance by musicians Jürgen and Doris Sturm, from Tübingen, who will be joined by local performers Gary Miller and Marie Little starting at 9pm.

The performance will mix rock with folk, blues and country influences.

The free events have been organised to celebrate County Durham's links with Tübingen, which go back to a twinning arrangement set up in 1969.

A small exchange programme takes place each year with artists visiting each year to take part in book festivals, readings in schools and other events.
