EFFORTS to reduce the harm caused by alcohol misuse have come under the spotlight in Durham.
People from a range of projects judged to be successful showed off their work at an event to mark national Alcohol Awareness Week.
Among the schemes represented were Best Bar None, which recognises venues which promote responsible drinking, and 4Real, a support service for young people affected by drink or drugs.
The day-long Alcohol Harm Reduction Conference, organised by Durham County Council and NHS County Durham as part of the Safe Durham Partnership, was held at The Durham Centre, in Belmont, Durham, on Tuesday, October 19.
Kirsty Wilkinson, alcohol harm reduction co-ordinator for the council, said: "Promoting a sensible drinking culture is something we should all take responsibility for if we are to bring about real change.
"We must get people talking about the huge price there is to pay in terms of health, the impact on families and the effect on society."
