FIRE crews are taking part in a week-long safety drive.
Crews from Durham Fire Station began visiting homes across Gilesgate, Durham, on Monday, as part of a community safety initiative.
A Fire Service spokesman said: "We aim to visit as many homes as possible in the Sunderland Road estate and surrounding streets in this time to fit 10-year smoke alarms free of charge, as well as offering a home fire safety check and general fire safety advice to local residents."
