PLANS to convert a disused church into a community arts centre are to be discussed at a public meeting.
Architect Tony Hyland revealed ideas to transform the former United Reformed Church, in Claypath, Durham City, into studios, workshops, a gallery and a restaurant, in December.
The church is a city centre landmark but has stood unused for several years.
Supporters of the plan hope a community arts trust could be established the buy and run the building and an attached 18th Century former Presbyterian church at its rear.
The proposed centre could be open for 2013.
A public meeting to debate the scheme will be held in Clayport Library, on Millennium Place, on Wednesday, March 17, at 7.15pm.
A working party will be elected to take the proposal forward.
Anyone supporting the proposal is welcome to attend.
