A CITY’S riverbanks are getting a facelift.
River Rangers are working on the banks of the River Wear between Durham’s boathouse and Radisson Blu Hotel.
They are repairing paths, improving seats and fences, picking up litter and removing graffiti.
The team was set to work by Durham County Council’s Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP).
Councillor Carol Woods, chair of the AAP’s Clean, Green Group, said: "At AAP meetings, we have been listening to comments from local people about the appearance of the riverbank.
"Two of our priorities are to develop the city centre and look at the local environment, so this is a direct approach to improve the riverbank and allow walkers, residents, tourists and rowers to enjoy the area even more."
The River Rangers will be working with the Riverbanks Liaison Group and other organisations involved. The East Durham AAP and four councillors have contributed funds to the work.
