STUDENTS at East Durham College are being encouraged to enrol on an Urban Dance taster programme.
A number of dancers from the Nouveau Dance Company, all pupils aged between 12 and 16 from Easington School, performed at the college in Peterlee as part of the campaign to get people interested and enrol on the taster programme.
Durham County Council’s Active Women, East Durham College and Nouveau Dance have come together to in a bid to increase participation in some form of physical exercise, by woman aged from 16 to 25, in the Easington area.
Kaye Stephenson, an engaging young women officer with the council who is funded by Sport England, said: "We all have the some objectives and targets, so it made sense that we come together to help try and get non-sporting students involved in physical activity.
"We all thought urban dance would be a great way to engage with people who may not enjoy ‘traditional’ physical activity, such as going to the gym."
Bethany Ainsley, founder of Nouveau Dance and Fitness, will run the urban dance programme.
It will be a six-week programme with two of the sessions running at East Durham College from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday January 26 and Thursday January 28.
Anyone who is interested should contact Ms Ainsley by email at bethany@nouveaudance.com or call her on 07856 220 667. Spaces are limited.
