A CARE home is to be built on the site of a former landmark pub after councillors gave the scheme the go-ahead.
The 70-bed home is to be built on the site of the former Bute Arms pub, in Front Street, Dipton, which burnt down in a fire in 2007.
Members of Durham County Council’s North Durham Area Planning committee gave the scheme the go-ahead when they met at Consett Civic Centre on Thursday.
The home, which will cater for people with dementia, is being developed by North-East entertainer Bobby Pattinson.
