A FORMER headteacher who pioneered the use of computers in school timetabling has been honoured.

Harry Clark was awarded the Chairman’s Medal by Durham County Council chairman Brian Myers on Wednesday.

Mr Clark qualified as a teacher in 1933 and was headmaster of Seaham Camden Square Secondary School from 1956 to 1976.

The school was the first in the UK to create timetables using computers.

Mr Clark also worked as a consultant for Durham County Council and the National Computing Centre.

He has lectured in 31 councils and at universities around the country; and was made an MBE in 2001.

Now 96, he still writes, works on environmental issues and speaks at Seaham Town Council.

Coun Myers said: "If anybody deserves a medal, it’s Harry."

Mr Clark said: "This award I shall truly treasure."
